Resolution1024 × 768–
Sharpness85 pixels per inch–
PanelLCD (TFT active-matrix LCD; Apple does not identify the panel subtype)CRT (Nominal 17-inch Natural Flat Diamondtron aperture-grille CRT, 16.15-inch viewable image; 0.25 mm aperture grille pitch. No fixed native pixel matrix.)
Refresh rate75 Hz–
Brightness (typical)180 nits–
Contrast ratio200:1–
ShapeFlat–
Colour depth24-bit colour interface; up to 16 million displayed colours in Apple's April 1998 datasheetUp to 16.7 million colours
Colour modes–Theatre Mode increases screen brightness for full-screen movie playback; no brightness figure is published
Pixel pitch–0.25 mm aperture grille pitch
Supported signal modes–Maker lists 1600 × 1200 at 65 Hz, 1280 × 1024 at 75 Hz, 1056 × 792 at 96 Hz, 1024 × 768 at 99 Hz, 832 × 624 at 120 Hz, 800 × 600 at 125 Hz and 640 × 480 at 153 Hz. Horizontal scan specification 80 kHz; vertical scan 60–160 Hz. These are selectable CRT modes, not a fixed native matrix or one native refresh rate.
Screen coating–Antireflective and antistatic screen coating
Calibration–Internal calibration, gamma adjustment and variable 4100–9300 K white-point selection; maker states designed for PANTONE colour reproduction
Viewing anglesTypical 120° horizontal and 90° vertical–
Connections
Video inputsDA-15Apple Display Connector
USB-C chargingNoneNone
USB ports–2 × USB-A
Other connections15-pin D-sub analogue RGB computer connection with included VGA adaptor; separate RCA composite and 4-pin DIN S-video inputs; left/right RCA audio inputs and mini-stereo audio output. Two downstream ADB sockets on desktop stand and an ADB connection on display; no USB hub is specified.ADC carries analogue video, USB data and power. This CRT uses the analogue signals within ADC, unlike the digital ADC LCDs; do not assume a digital-only DVI-to-ADC adaptor works.
USB hub detail–Two self-powered USB 1.1 ports on the right side of the display; maker notes support for Power Mac G4 Cube USB speakers

Size with standDesktop stand, 39.9 × 38.1–49.0 × 24.9 cm (width × height × depth), from Apple's April 1998 datasheet. Service manual lists slightly different metric dimensions beside the same imperial figures; datasheet retained here. With included picture-frame stand, 15.7 × 11.6 × 6.9 inches (width × height × depth), weighing 2.3 kg.43.2 × 47.5 × 44.4 cm (width × height × depth), from archived Apple technical information article 58673
ControlsPower, brightness, graphics/video source toggle, reset and on-screen display navigation; software controls for white point, black level, tracking, positioning and sharpnessSystem startup and sleep control; contrast, degauss, geometry and convergence adjustment through compatible software
ColoursOriginal translucent Azul blue enclosure; not the later Blueberry or Graphite modelsCrystal-clear enclosure
Power and support
Power useDisplay operating consumption below 30 W, from the revision-specific Apple technical note; separate 45 W power adaptorMaximum 113 W operating; 35 W or less with the system in energy-saving mode
Power supplyExternal power adaptor, 100–240 V AC at 50–60 Hz; this mains frequency is not the display refresh rate28 V DC ±1.5 V through ADC; no separate monitor mains cord
SoftwareApple announced this model on 17 March 1998 for worldwide availability in early May; Apple's archived support sheet gives introduction on 7 May 1998. Release month follows retail availability rather than announcement. Native 1024 × 768 accepts 60, 70, 74.9 and 75 Hz in the original maker manual. Apple Technical Information Library article 30460 explicitly distinguishes original Rev. A (180 cd/m², 4.5 kg desktop stand and below 30 W) from 1999 Rev. B (200 cd/m², 5.5 kg and below 35 W). The April 1998 datasheet and archived support sheet give the later figures; the later revision-specific technical note is followed here. PowerPC Mac with Mac OS 7.5 or later, or Windows 95/NT; see manual exclusions for older Macs and graphics cards.Apple's US announcement says available immediately on 19 July 2000. Requires a Power Mac G4 Cube or Power Mac G4 with ADC. Support112524 labels 1600 × 1200 at 65 Hz as native, but it is a supported signal mode on an analogue CRT without a fixed native matrix. Brightness, contrast ratio and pixel density are omitted. The service manual rounds weight to 20 kg in handling instructions; published technical article 58673 specifies 20.7 kg.
