What reviewers say

Reviewers agree the ATH-M50x has a lively, engaging sound with plenty of bass, but not a neutral one: TechRadar warns against expecting studio-monitor neutrality, and Audio Science Review found the bass too much, recommending it only with EQ. MusicRadar found the design improved over the ATH-M50, though pricier, and TechRadar notes the proprietary cable.
