What reviewers say

Both reviews praise build quality, fast autofocus and strong central sharpness, with weaker wide-open edges and wide-angle distortion. The Digital Picture finds colour fringing well controlled and prefers it to the 17–40 mm. Photozone's APS-C test finds substantial fringing and considers the cheaper zoom similarly capable when f/2.8 is unnecessary; full-frame shading is outside its test scope.
