Both praise its image quality, construction and controls, finding it relatively compact for an ultra-wide f/2.8 zoom but costly beside the 14–30mm f/4 S. Photography Blog finds good balance on full-frame bodies, little fringing and shading most noticeable at 14mm f/2.8. Digital Camera World finds fast, quiet autofocus, minimal coma and strong real-world sharpness across the frame. Its close-range chart tests show weaker corners wide open, improving when stopped down. It notes that distortion and shading benefit from camera corrections and that compatible 112 mm filters can be expensive. Both value the hood-based filter attachment for landscape work.
