What reviewers say

Both praise sharp images, useful reach, quick quiet autofocus and balanced handling. Both report corner darkening at F4. Amateur Photographer finds considerable uncorrected distortion; Photography Blog describes little distortion in its test images. Amateur Photographer also encountered continuous-autofocus failures on its Alpha 9; that historical test does not establish behaviour with later firmware.

Release detail
Sony Japan specified 25 November 2017 and Hong Kong end November; main date retains regional month precision. Photography Blog calls the hood round but lacked it in its sample; current maker specifications confirm petal shape. Reviews disagree on distortion and barrel material, so no unverified material claim is used. Amateur Photographer’s Alpha 9 AF-C failure is a historical sample observation; Sony separately acknowledged selected early serial-number units with focusing defects
