What reviewers say

Both praise low weight, quiet reliable autofocus, manual-focus handling and strong central detail. Digital Camera World finds excellent wide-open corner sharpness; Photography Blog finds edges need stopping down substantially. Both find little distortion, well-controlled colour fringing and attractive blur. Photography Blog also reports pronounced wide-open corner darkening. Optical stabilisation is absent.

Release detail
Sony Hong Kong specified late March 2017. Sony Japan brought the initially planned April launch forward to 24 March 2017. Main date retains month precision for regional release. Photography Blog Mark Goldstein tested an Alpha 7R II in 2017; Digital Camera World Matthew Richards published in 2022. Their wide-open edge sharpness judgments differ. Maker AF/MF switch specification supersedes an inconsistent sentence in Photography Blog saying there are no barrel switches
