What reviewers say
AVForums and HDTVTest praised the 65-inch A1's OLED contrast, colour, upscaling and screen-based sound. HDTVTest found its near-black gradation cleaner than earlier OLEDs, but its sample had faint vertical near-black streaks and clipped some 4,000-nit HDR highlights. AVForums liked the picture and design but found Android TV imperfect and gaming lag relatively high.

- Panel
- OLED
- Panel detail
- Self-emissive OLED. HDTVTest measured a 120 Hz panel on its exact 65-inch UK review sample; Sony's UK sheets do not publish one native rate for all three sizes, so no series-wide Hz is assigned.
- Resolution
- 3840 × 2160 (4K)
- HDR formats
- HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision
- HDR extras
- Sony UK says HDR10 and HLG are supported; Dolby Vision was added later by firmware, in April 2018 in Europe rather than at the 2017 launch.
- Picture processing
- X1 Extreme, 4K X-Reality PRO, Dual database processing, Object-based HDR remaster and Super bit mapping 4K HDR.
- Motion handling
- Sony lists Motionflow XR without a native Hz figure on its UK sheets. HDTVTest measured 120 Hz on the 65-inch UK sample, with 650 lines of motion resolution when Motionflow was engaged.
- Viewing angle
- HDTVTest measured a very wide 166-degree viewing cone on its 65-inch sample.
