What reviewers say

Both find it a manageable everyday prime with quick, quiet focusing and good image quality. Their verdicts differ. ePHOTOzine praises the sharpness, smooth background blur and value, while Amateur Photographer finds the bokeh less smooth and the f/1.8 S sharper. Amateur Photographer considers the two lenses too close in price at review time to recommend replacing the f/1.8 S, except perhaps for low-light use or the separate clickless control ring. Both find flare well controlled, with some colour fringing possible in high-contrast scenes.
