Both reviews praise the comfortable keyboard, sturdy plastic construction, responsive software and battery life. Mobile Tech Review finds the camera useful in good light, while GSMArena criticises its detail and colours. Browser results differ too: GSMArena handles its Flash content successfully, but Mobile Tech Review encounters slow video playback and memory warnings. GSMArena reports poor analogue audio measurements, while explicitly allowing that its sample may be faulty. Both value office editing and identify the lack of GPS and HSDPA as limitations.
2.36-inch QVGA TFT active-matrix LCD with up to 16 million colours; not a touchscreen. Mobile Tech Review's 2.6-inch prose differs from its own table and the maker's 2.36-inch specification.

Battery life detail
User-replaceable BP-4L 1500 mAh Li-Po in the maker specification sheet. Its maxima are 11 hours GSM or 4 hours 40 minutes WCDMA talk, 18 days GSM or 20 days WCDMA standby and 18 hours music. The RM-437 issue1 guide instead lists 10.5/4.5 hours talk and 17/20 days standby; conditions vary. Mobile Tech Review's approximately three-day mixed-use test is not a maker playback claim.
Wired charging
Separate charging connector and compatible Nokia charger; the exact guide permits a CA-44 adaptor for older chargers. No charging wattage published in these sources; Full-Speed USB is not a charging-power claim.

Symbian OS 9.2, S60 Third Edition Feature Pack 1. Maker regional sheet calls it S60 3.1 Edition; full production reviews clarify the edition.
Software features
Business/personal home-screen profiles; Mail for Exchange, POP/IMAP email, VPN and phone/card encryption. Quickoffice editing in both production reviews; Office 2007 formats required an upgrade in their tests. PDF reader, ZIP manager and Flash Lite 3.0. Historical online services may no longer operate.
Release detail
Announced 12 November 2008 with shipments forecast in the coming weeks. Nokia's 2008 annual report confirms E63 shipments during that year; earliest worldwide retail month remains unresolved. The E63 joins the E71 in the maker range rather than replacing it.
In the box
Maker regional sheet lists E63, BP-4L, AC-8 charger, WH-102 headset and owner/quick-start documents; memory card depends on market/channel. Mobile Tech Review's US test instead includes HS-125. GSMArena's package has no USB cable.
Connectivity
Mobile network
Quad-band GSM/EGSM 850/900/1800/1900. E63-1 uses WCDMA 900/2100, E63-2 850/1900 and E63-3 850/2100; these are separate regional variants. WCDMA up to 384 kbps down/up; no HSDPA or LTE.
Wi-Fi
IEEE 802.11b/g; maker lists WEP, 802.1X, WPA and WPA2.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR and A2DP stereo audio.
USB
Micro-USB Full-Speed data connector; do not infer Hi-Speed transfer from USB 2.0 compatibility. Separate 3.5 mm AV/headset connector.
Positioning
No built-in GPS receiver. Exact guide supports a compatible external Bluetooth GPS receiver and Nokia Maps; historical map services are not promised available today. Mobile Tech Review's final GPS specification row conflicts with its own test and the exact maker guide.
