What reviewers say

HDTVTest and What Hi-Fi? praised the UE48JU7000's contrast, natural colour, 4K detail and capable HD upscaling. HDTVTest also found good screen uniformity and low gaming lag, but said its limited brightness and colour gamut made HDR clips unconvincing. What Hi-Fi? found the stand less sturdy than it wanted.

Flat LED-backlit LCD with active-shutter 3D. HDTVTest identified direct LED lighting and measured a 120 Hz VA-type panel on its 48-inch UK review unit; other size panels and native rates are not established.

HDR extras
The UK maker tables do not claim HDR. HDTVTest found that updated firmware on its 48-inch set could read HDR metadata, but its measured brightness and Rec.709 colour gamut could not present HDR correctly.
Picture processing
Samsung's UK tables list UHD Dimming, Precision Black, PurColour, Contrast Enhancer and Peak Illuminator. Its 1300 Picture Quality Index is a processing label, not a native refresh rate.
Picture modes
Movie mode and white-balance and colour controls; HDTVTest obtained accurate colour on its calibrated 48-inch set.
Motion handling
HDTVTest measured 1080 or more lines of motion resolution with Auto Motion Plus on the 48-inch set and smooth 24-frame 2D playback. Its 120 Hz native panel measurement applies only to that reviewed size.
Viewing angle
HDTVTest found contrast and colour weakened off-axis on its 48-inch VA-type panel; this was not tested across all sizes.
