What reviewers say

Reviewers agree it adds useful speed and much better wired and wireless networking to the same cheap, flexible board. Jeff Geerling found it ran cooler than the 3 B but gave modest real-world gains for the extra power it draws, and it needs a good power supply; Tom's Guide noted the learning curve and the extra parts needed without a kit.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, about three times the network throughput of Raspberry Pi 3 Model B (maker's figure)
  • PoE support with a separate PoE HAT
  • Heat spreader lets it sustain its top speed for longer

Cons

  • Gigabit Ethernet runs over USB 2.0, limited to 300Mbps
  • USB 2.0 ports only
  • One HDMI output
