What reviewers say

Mobile-review and All About Symbian praise the responsive keypad, connectivity, stereo music playback and improved battery life. Both find the screen useful, although Mobile-review sees some fading in sunlight. All About Symbian likes daylight photographs but finds low-light results poor. Mobile-review criticises limited internal storage and notes early software faults; All About Symbian finds its long-term unit dependable, while criticising slow photo editing and some organiser limitations. All About Symbian also finds the lack of a front camera awkward for face-to-face video calls without the optional stand.

Display

Resolution
208 × 176
Panel
LCD
Display type
Active-matrix TFT LCD with 176 × 208 pixels and 65,536 colours, original consumer specifications. Physical diagonal and native refresh rate are not published in the recovered maker specifications. Forum Nokia's duplicate colour-depth row incorrectly prints 176 bit; its 16-bit row and consumer specification establish the colour count.
Brightness detail
Automatic backlight adjustment, original consumer specifications. No brightness in nits published.

Performance

Storage
10 MB
Memory
10 MB of internal dynamic memory shared by contacts, messages, photographs, videos, calendar and applications, original consumer page and brochure. Forum Nokia lists 9 MB of shared storage. These are user-storage figures, not RAM. The launch release's 74 MB combines 10 MB internal memory with the supplied 64 MB card; it is not 74 MB of internal storage.
Storage type
Hot-swappable reduced-size dual-voltage MMC. Reader operates at 1.8 V and requires cards supporting both 1.8 V and 3.0 V. Original standard package lists a 64 MB card; Nokia notes that capacity varies by market and network operator. No maximum supported card capacity inferred.

Cameras

Main camera
1.3 MP
Ultra wide camera
None
Telephoto camera
None
Optical zoom
None
Main camera
Rear 1.3 MP sensor with 1.23 MP effective resolution and 1280 × 960-pixel JPEG still photographs. Normal, night, self-timer and sequence modes; sequence takes up to six photographs. An optional external flash is an accessory, not a built-in flash. The approved 2.0 service guide instead prints a 1.0 MP / 1152 × 864 camera in its introductory table, conflicting with the exact consumer, developer, launch and operating-guide specifications; that service-table figure is not used.
Front camera
No built-in front camera. Video calling uses the rear camera; the optional Nokia Video Call Stand PT-8 allows the caller to face the display while transmitting their own image, original user guide and independent reviews. Video calls require a compatible network, service, USIM and recipient.
Zoom
Up to 6× digital zoom for photographs and videos, original consumer specifications. Digital zoom is not optical zoom.
Video recording
3GPP files with H.263 video and AMR audio, with up to one hour per clip subject to available memory. The consumer page prints 174 × 144 pixels while labelling it QCIF; this unresolved apparent typo is preserved rather than silently supplying another model's figure. Its lower-resolution option is 128 × 96 pixels. The English guide confirms recording-length and selectable resolution controls without printing the pixel counts. Short MMS clips are limited to 300 kB, with some networks accepting only 100 kB. MPEG-4 and RealVideo playback support does not establish recording resolution.
Camera features
Image and video editing, Movie Director and compatible Bluetooth photo printing. Optional printing and wireless-keyboard applications are installed on many supplied cards and vary by package.

Battery and charging

Battery
900 mAh
Wireless charging
None
Battery life detail
Removable 900 mAh BL-5C battery, original brochure. The consumer page specifies up to 2–6 hours of talk and 6–11 days of standby; the brochure instead lists 3–6 hours of talk. Nokia qualifies these claims by SIM card, network settings, use and operating conditions.
Wired charging
Separate charger connector, with ACP-12 travel charger in the original standard package. Pop-Port USB data transfer does not establish charging through USB.

Design

Type
Standard
Weight
127 g
Thickness
21 mm
Height × width
110 × 60 mm
Weight detail
Original consumer specification and shipping release give 110 × 60 × 21 mm and 127 g. The original announcement, brochure and Mobile-review instead give 20.6 mm thickness; consumer figure retained with the discrepancy recorded.
Buttons
Five-way navigation control, two soft keys and a numeric keypad, with application, edit, clear and call controls. Side controls include power/profile selection and voice functions, original guide and maker photographs.
Water resistance detail
Original user guide explicitly says the phone is not water-resistant. No IP rating assigned.
Speakers
Integrated hands-free loudspeaker, voice recorder and stereo MP3/AAC music player. Original HDS-3 stereo headset connects through Pop-Port. Optional accessories do not establish a built-in FM radio.

Software

Operating system
Symbian
Software at launch
Symbian OS 8.0a with S60 2nd Edition Feature Pack 2, exact Forum Nokia specifications. Installable Symbian applications and Java MIDP 2.0 / CLDC 1.1 applications with JSR-184 3D graphics support.
Software features
Contacts, calendar, email with SMTP/POP3/IMAP4, Quickoffice document viewers, WAP 2.0 XHTML/HTML browser, RealPlayer and local PC or remote SyncML synchronisation. Original network services, PC software and downloads are historical capabilities, not a claim that their infrastructure remains available.
Release detail
Announced 14 June 2004 with shipments planned for the fourth quarter. Nokia's 3 November 2004 release says shipments have started, and its fourth-quarter report confirms 2004 shipments. First retail month remains unresolved; year precision retained. No direct predecessor link inferred from related model names or a reviewer's comparison.
In the box
Original consumer standard package lists the phone, 64 MB MU-1 RS-MMC and full-size adaptor, HDS-3 stereo headset, BL-5C battery, ACP-12 charger, DKU-2 USB cable and software CD. Memory-card configuration varies by market or operator.

Connectivity

Mobile network
GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 and WCDMA 2100, with automatic band and mode switching. WCDMA packet downloads up to 384 kbps and uploads up to 128 kbps; EDGE figures depend on slot allocation. The consumer page lists peak 236.8 kbps download and 118.4 kbps upload, while the brochure qualifies 236.8/59.2 or 177.6/118.4 kbps down/up combinations. Actual service depends on network support. The guide and a consumer data subsection use UMTS 2000 wording; the exact network table and Forum Nokia name WCDMA 2100.
SIM
Removable SIM or USIM card under the battery, original user guide. No dual-SIM configuration established.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth 1.1, original brochure. Consumer specifications list headset, hands-free and Basic Imaging profiles; Basic Printing and Human Interface Device profiles use Nokia's printing and wireless-keyboard applications. No modern Bluetooth audio codec inferred.
USB
USB 2.0 full-speed data connection through Pop-Port and the DKU-2 cable. This is not USB 2.0 high-speed, USB-C or USB Power Delivery.
