What reviewers say

Reviewers agree it is two to three times faster than the Pi 4 for little more money, with much faster I/O, dual 4K output and PCIe expansion. The common criticisms are the need for active cooling and a new power supply, cases and cables; CNX Software noted the loss of H.264 hardware decoding, and Tom's Hardware found some HATs needed software updates at launch.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • 2.4GHz Cortex-A76 CPU, 2–3× the CPU performance of Raspberry Pi 4 (maker's figure)
  • PCIe 2.0 x1 connector for an NVMe SSD or AI accelerator (with a separate M.2 HAT)
  • Built-in real-time clock and power button

Cons

  • No 3.5 mm audio and composite video jack
  • Needs a 5V/5A USB-C supply for full power to USB devices
  • Needs the Active Cooler or a fan case to run heavy loads continuously without throttling
